We think you'll find that Christ The Servant is an extremely generous congregation in every way.
We have families from all kinds of backgrounds. Some have a lot of resources, and some have very little.
We don't believe that that's the kind of thing that should determine whether or not you get to participate in the events we offer.
That's why we have a policy that the cost of something should never be a factor in whether or not people have access to it.
For any event we do that costs $100 or less, we simply ask the participants to contribute $5. Our church will pay the rest.
For events that cost more, we pay a significant portion of that cost, as well.
For example, Lutherhill retreats for Jr. and Sr. High students cost $130 per person. We simply ask participants to pay $35 as an investment of good faith. Our church pays the rest.
For the 2015 ELCA Youth Gathering in Detroit, an event that costs around $1500 per person, we only asked participants to contribute $425! Some of the cost was covered by fundraising. Our church paid the rest.
Even with this generosity, there will still be those for whom $5, or $35, or $425 will be too much.
In those cases, we still insist that cost will not be an issue. Generous members of our congregation are always willing to pay that contribution so that others can participate in ministry, and they often do so anonymously.
